The displays
of archival materials illustrate the historical stages
of the Republican period, involving major historical events and
figures. They represent the face of China's society and historical changes. The archival documents and photographs show visitors the turbulent years
of the Republican period. Our aim is to make visitors know the
difficuties of the Chinese Democratic Revolution, and better understand and treasure today's
hard-earned prosperity. |

This display
is divided into four parts: |

1. Dr Sun Yat-sen and the Nanjing Provisional Government and the Southern Revolutionary Governments |
|
| |
| In this part, archival materials show that the revolutionaries,
led by Dr Sun Yat-sen, brought an end to the 2000 years
of feudal rule of the Qing dynasty, and
established of a Republic. Among them are a few documents written or signed by Dr Sun Yat-sen himself,
as well as the policies, rules and regulations issued by the Nanjing Provisional Government. In 1917, Dr Sun Yat-sen
established the Military Government to Protect the Constitutions in Guangzhou and fought against the Beiyang warlords. |

2. The Beijing National Government's(Warlords) Rise and Fall |
|
| |
| Provisional President Sun Yat-sen had to offer the presidency of the Republic of China to Yuan Shih-kai in Beijing, but Yuan even restored the autocratic monarchy in 1916. Beijing was controlled by warlords. After Yuan Shih-kai, Li Yuanhong, Duan Qirui, Xu Shichang, Feng Guozhang and Cao Kun claimed the presidency of Beijing National Government. |

| With Zhang Zuolin's withdrawal from Beijing in June 1928 ended the Beijing National Government.
Archival materials illustrate the history of the
Beijing government. There are also some archival materials concerning the fighting against the warlords such as the May Fourth Movement in Beijing in 1919. |

3. The Nanjing National Government |

| Archival material in this part reflect the establishment of the National Government of the KMT in Nanjing in April 1927, the Northeastern Provinces' (Zhang Xueliang) proclamation
of adherence to the Nanjing Nationalist Government, the September 18th Incident, the July 7th Incident, the Anti-Japanese United Front, the All China |

| Anti-Japanese Movement, the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the Communists-Nationalists Civil War, and other major events. |

4. Special Exhibits |

| The greatest part of the holdings of the SHAC is made up of official documents. In addition there are photos, flags, various
identification document, postal stamps, currencies, pawn tickets, trade marks, medals,
and seals paintings and calligraphy of famous figures. |
