The Second Historical Archives of China (SHAC) is located on 309 Zhongshan E. Road, 2.5 kilometers from the center of Nanjing , It is well known both at home and abroad for its rich archival materials. The SHAC contains archival materials of previous central governments and their subordinate organs in the Republican period. The main building, a fine traditional hall completed in 1936, as the former Museum for Records of the KMT History Compilation and Editing Committee, is flanked by two large and dignified new depositories in, the same style as the main building, erected in 1980s.The gateway bears a signboard in the hand of the illustrious poet and historian Guo Moruo.
The former site of the Palace of Ming dynasty is to the east, and the Zhongshan Hotel (the former Officers Moral Endeavor Association) to the west. It is very convenient to stay for users as are many hotels nearby, such as the Ming Palace Hotel, Zijincheng Hotel, Haoyun Hotel, Liangzi Hotel, and Hilton Hotel. Users can arrive the SHAC from any port of the city. Bus routes 5, 9, 52, 25, and 17 pass the building. The main entrance to the building is shown on the orientation map.
